I just realised that to succeed in science, one needs a ridiculous amount of luck and perhaps not so much logic.

And that in the real world, a big fat bank account will open far more doors than a Dr. in front of one's name ever could.

But God willing, I will be blessed with an abundance of logic to survive and just enough open doors to be comfortable.

The countdown begins.

Yet another year has come to pass.

2007 has seen me ride a dramatic rollercoaster of intoxicating, triumphant highs and soul-crushing lows. It was almost always one or the other: I barely had time to catch my breath and enjoy the view.

But now that I have come to a momentary stop, I find myself standing on solid ground, thinking what the hell just happened?. But I am, despite everything, still standing. A little dizzy, perhaps, but without any noticeable dent or bruise on my spirit.

The new year promises more quiet victories, loud defeats, and, above all, many many many annoying uncertainties. I know I will soon have to get out of this crazy car, breathe, slow down, and settle down before I die of a heart attack. But that time is not now. Not yet.

So, as crazy as it sounds, I'm jumping back into the front seat.

Hello, 2008. I'm ready for you.

Well, I'm back.

And everyone seems far more interested in how the boyfriend did (in terms of meeting the parents) than how I did at Max Planck. *groans*

So, in case you were wondering, he did superbly well. :-)

Europe is beautiful. But this heatwave is killing me. Will be back in August. Til then, take care.
